KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who police say robbed a bank last week and recognized from a heist at the same branch four years ago has been arraigned.
The latest robbery occurred Sept. 3 at the Fifth Third Bank, 4109 Portage Road in Kalamazoo. The suspect walked in, demanded money, was given some cash and fled the scene, according to police.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety detectives Kristin Cole and Amy Hicok recognized the suspect from the bank's surveillance photos. Detective Cole solved another case allegedly involving the same man two days prior to this robbery, according to a news release.
Detective Juan Cordes recalled a robbery at the same bank in 2005 that was not solved. He located surveillance photos from that heist. The suspect in those photos matched the one from the second robbery.
The investigation then led to the arrest of Daniel Richard Lee. He was arraigned Wednesday on charges of bank robbery and possession of heroin for the September crime. He was also arraigned on bank robbery charges for his alleged involvement in the 2005 crime.
