Man waits at PD, threatens officer

KALAMAZOO Mich. (WOOD) - A 31-year-old man is facing numerous charges after allegedly threatening a police officer at the police station.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer Heath Shoemaker drove to Public Safety Station No. 4/5 in the 600 block of North Park Street around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The officer noticed a civilian vehicle parked in an area normally reserved for police vehicles.

The occupant of the car appeared to be patiently waiting for an officer as he sat behind the wheel of his car. Officer Shoemaker got out of his patrol car and prepared to provide assistance to the man, police said.

"Surprisingly, the driver jumped out of the vehicle, quickly advanced toward the officer, and started yelling threatening statements," according to a news release.

The man yelled that he had a gun and intended to kill police officers.

Officer Shoemaker was able to quickly detain the man who was arrested for assault on a police officer, operating while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license.

No weapon was located at the scene.
