KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A traffic stop led to the arrest of two people, including a teenager wanted on a multiple-count felony warrant for assault with intent to commit murder.
The stop was conducted because the 21-year-old Kalamazoo driver was wanted for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
The 18-year-old Kalamazoo passenger fled from the car that was pulled over around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Douglas Avenue in Kalamazoo.
Officers quickly detained the passenger who gave police several false names. He eventually admitted his real name, and that is when police discovered the warrant.
Police searched the passenger and found a knife in a pocket. He will also be charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
The driver and passenger were taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail pending a review of this investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
Another passenger, a 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was cited for having open intoxicants in the car and then released.
