KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Six people were hospitalized, two with critical injuries, after their minivan slammed into an SUV that ran a stop sign on W. Main Street in Kalamazoo.
Police were trying to pull over the SUV after its driver ran a red light, but the driver fled and ran a stop sign at the intersection of Prairie Avenue. The minivan -- with two adults and three kids inside -- broadsided the SUV.
Two men were in the SUV; one was able to crawl out and arrested. The other was extricated and taken to a hospital.
The SUV driver, 25-year-old Kenneth Calhoun, will face two charges of driving while license suspended causing serious injury (five-year felony), and a charge of moving violation causing serious injury (93-day misdemeanor).
Two women in the minivan were critically injured. One has since improved, as of Monday morning. The children suffered minor injuries.
