TEXAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A family of three escaped a fire inside their Kalamazoo County home early Wednesday morning.
The residents were in the basement at the time when they heard noises coming from the upper portion of the residence around 3:45 a.m.
They went upstairs and saw a fire coming from the garage area, and the smoke detectors sounded.
The family then went outside and called 911.
Firefighters arrived in the 5000 block of Whippoorwill Drive near S. 12 Street in Texas Township and saw "a very large fire" coming from the home, officials at the scene told 24 Hour News 8.
The flames were extinguished, but it appears only a few personal belongings may be salvageable from the wreckage due to the extensive damage.
It is unknown how the blaze started.
The family said they moved into the home a few weeks ago and were making minor renovations.
