RICHLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A teen seeking reinstatement at Gull Lake Community Schools after bringing a gun to school grounds in 2011 went before a school board-appointed committee Monday.

The teen was expelled after the November 2011 incident at Gull Lake Middle School, but this fall requested re-admission into the district -- this time as a high school freshman.

The committee had questions for the 14-year-old boy and both his parents, father Patrick Metzger told 24 Hour News 8. Metzger wouldn't go into detail, but said the meeting started at 4:30 p.m. Monday and lasted several hours.

"They asked questions and we gave honest and direct answers. I thought it went well," Metzger told 24 Hour News 8 over the phone.

At the end of the meeting, the Metzgers were told they would be contacted soon by superintendent Christopher Rundle.

The reinstatement committee has until Dec. 6 to make its recommendation to the Gull Lake Board of Education. The full board is expected to vote at its Dec. 17 meeting.

Some parents are outraged the the board is considering re-admission.
