OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A drug bust developed following a traffic stop in which one of the occupants lied to police at the scene.
A Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle at 12:22 a.m. Wednesday on Drake Rd near KL Avenue in Oshtemo Township because of an expired license plate.
The deputy talked with the occupants and smelled marijuana coming from inside the car.
When asked about the odor, a male passenger denied there was marijuana in the car.
The female driver and rear seat passenger were asked about the smell, and gave the deputy a large grocery bag containing more than a pound of marijuana.
The deputy searched the vehicle and found $360 in cash.
The vehicle and money were forfeited and the female passenger -- a 20-year-old resident of Kalamazoo -- was arrested for the drugs and two outstanding warrants.
The driver and male passenger are not being charged in this case and were released from the scene.
