PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - Officers with the Portage Department of Public Safety say alcohol was a factor in a crash that left one person injured and one dog dead.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. Saturday in the 9000 block of Oakland Drive.

Officers say the driver's vehicle went off the road and hit a tree, causing the tree to fall over and block the road.

The 35-year-old driver from Portage is in fair condition at a hospital.

Another dog in the SUV was injured.
