CONVIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Ten people were injured, two critically, after their van rolled over in the median along I-69 in Calhoun County, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.

The driver lost control of the vehicle on the icy highway around 9: a.m. Thursday near N Drive North, mile marker 44, police said in a news release.

Three of the occupants were ejected and one was pinned in the vehicle when authorities and rescue personnel arrived at the scene, north of Marshall.

All of the victims were transported to four hospitals -- Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Bronson Battle Creek, and Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Their injuries now range from minor to serious.

The victims, who are expected to survive, have been identified as --

  • Driver -- Sandra Miller
  • Passengers -- Ervin Miller, Clyde Miller, Kenneth Bontrager, Milton Bontrager, Delmar Fry, Willie Yoder, Steven Lambright, Jerry Lehman and Marvin Eash.

The victims are Amish and a sign on the van indicated it was from Buggy Line Tours of Shipshewana and Middlebury, Ind., according to the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Police told 24 Hour News 8 there were multiple crashes on I-69 and I-94 due to icy roads in the morning.
