EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man is in jail, facing numerous charges, after he fled from deputies and crashed his pickup truck.

It is what police found in his vehicle that increased the possible penalties against the suspect.

Calhoun County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the suspect's vehicle around 2 a.m. Friday on 11 Mile Road near Verona Road in Emmett Township after the driver committed some traffic violations, according to a news release.

But the suspect did not stop and led deputies on a chase through Pennfield Township, and into Eaton County to Bellevue.

The pursuit ended on Pease Road near the Eaton-Barry county line when the suspect lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into some trees.

The driver, identified as a 35-year-old man from Charlotte, suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was transported to Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall where he was treated and released.

Deputies found more than $10,000 in cash, digital scales and a handgun in the suspect's vehicle.

The driver was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, fleeing and eluding, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
