BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - A corrections officer, who is the adult son of a former Battle Creek police chief and Calhoun County undersheriff, is in jail facing charges of having sex with a minor boy.
Troy Pope is behind bars in Kalamazoo County rather than Calhoun County, where he worked.
The most serious charge against Pope, 26, involved an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy. At least one incident happened in a car in the Springfield Fraternal Order of Police parking lot. That boy is now 17.
The alleged crimes came to light when an 18-year-old man was arrested over the weekend. He told jail officials that something had happened at Pope's home about a week before.
The Michigan State Police was called to investigate. Lt. Chuck Christensen told 24 Hour News 8 Pope allegedly offered the 18-year-old money for sex and "it appeared to be consensual."
Investigators found out about the alleged relationship with the 15-year-old from the 18-year-old who told officials.
Pope is the son of Thomas Pope. He faces one charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for his alleged relationship with the now-17-year-old and is being held without bond.
