CLARENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man was cited for reckless operation of a watercraft and failing to provide a valid registration following a boat accident on a Calhoun County lake.

Nicholas Benson, 31, from Eaton Rapids was driving a speed boat along the west side of Duck Lake at 4:40 p.m. Sunday.

While accelerating, he was unable to see a small paddle boat occupied by Ashlee Elizabeth Johnson, 28, from Troy and Jana Johnson, 22, from Battle Creek, and their dog.

The two boats collided in the Clarence Township lake.

The Johnsons suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

Their dog suffered a life-threatening head injury and was taken to a veterinarian in the Lansing area.
