PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - A methamphetamine lab ignited a fire that injured one person and displaced 42 others at an apartment complex, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety.
Detectives will submit warrant requests for multiple persons of interest in the case, according to a news release. One of the primary persons of interest has already been arrested on unrelated charges, police said.
Five fire departments were dispatched Jan. 4 in a top-floor Briargate Apartment in the 300 block of Tudor Circle. The ceiling collapsed in the apartment where the meth lab caught fire, and flames spread to the attic and adjoining apartment. A fire wall in the building prevented the flames from spreading, but residual smoke damaged an adjoining roof area.
Anyone with more information about this investigation is asked to call police at 269.329.4567 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
