KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo is getting a big facelift.
At an announcement Tuesday, officials laid out the plans. They include new paint and carpet throughout the building, along with a large scoreboard and new concession stands.
The renovations cost more than $2 million and include new high-tech touches such as large plasma monitors on the concourse and a new audio system.
Wings Stadium officials say this is the biggest overhaul in the 38-year-old arena's history. The building is home to the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team and hosts several concerts throughout the year.
Stadium Management Co. owns the Wings Stadium Complex, 3600 Vanrick Dr., Kalamazoo Wings, the Wings West facility and the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings.
The renovations will be completed in time for the Wings' 2012-2013 home opener on Oct. 19. But their first preseason game versus the Toledo Walleye on Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. has been moved to the Borgess Rink at Wings West, located at 5076 Sports Dr.
