KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A White House official was at Kalamazoo Central High School Thursday, finalizing details in advance of Monday's commencement speech to be given by President Barack Obama.
And while the administration representative met with school administrators, other school staffers were busy putting tickets together for the students and their families.
Seniors had finals Thursday. Friday will be their last day, featuring a senior farewell.
With four days until commencement, senior Xavier Bolden, who lent his voice to and appeared in the video that helped students win the presidential speech, said what's happening Monday has still not "sunk in."
"Sometimes you just have to take a second to breathe, but this is one of those moments where you don't breathe," Bolden told 24 Hour News 8. "And it's a good out-of-breath feeling."
Fellow senior Cara Cunliffe also worked on the video.
"It's not that I'm nervous" about Monday, she said. "I probably won't sleep. [but] that's just pure excitement. It's so exciting to think that we're going to make history like that."
24 Hour News 8 will have extensive coverage of the presidential visit and commencement leading up to and including the event itself. You can watch the entire ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday on WOTV4. WOOD TV8 will carry the presidential address beginning at 7 p.m.
