KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - An 18-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested Tuesday for carrying a handgun and the reckless discharge of a firearm.
A Kalamazoo Public Safety officer was sent to the area of Stockbridge and Portage at around 7:30 p.m. on a report of people drinking and creating a disturbance.
When he arrived, the crowd began to disperse. Next, the officer saw a man fire a handgun into the air and hide the weapon in his pocket.
The officer followed the man, who ran from the area. At one point, the suspect took the gun from his pocket and threw it onto the roof of a building. After discarding the gun, he surrendered and the officer arrested him.
The .25 caliber semi-automatic was recovered from the roof.
The teen is being held at the Kalamazoo County jail.
