SCOTTS, Mich. (AP) - The Defense Department says soldiers from southern Michigan and Tennessee were killed during a rocket propelled grenade attack in Afghanistan.
The military announced Monday that 25-year-old Capt. Drew E. Russell of Scotts, a community in Kalamazoo County, died Saturday after enemy forces attacked his unit in Kandahar.
Twenty-nine-year-old Capt. Joshua S. Lawrence of Nashville, Tenn., also died in the attack.
The soldiers were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colo.
