KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A student was taken into police custody Thursday afternoon after being caught with a loaded weapon at Kalamazoo Central High School.
Around 12:30 p.m., high school administrators were informed that a 16-year-old male may be carrying a loaded weapon.
Staff confronted the student, who admitted he was armed. He turned over the .22 caliber handgun he had concealed, which was loaded with one round of ammunition.
The school is a weapon-free zone.
School officials called the Kalamazoo Township Department of Public Safety, who took the teen into custody. He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.
The case was turned over to the county prosecutor's office.
