KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - The 22-year-old passenger involved in a double-crash on November 18 died Friday,
Brittany Despins died on November 23, according to Bronson Hospital.
Despins was in a vehicle that lost control during the turn on Business Loop 131 near Westnedge Avenue. The vehicle rolled over in the median. There were four people inside at the time of the crash. At least one person was ejected and three were hurt.
An off-duty Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputy, on her way to work, and a nurse who had just finished her shift at Bronson Methodist Hospital, each appeared on the scene. They helped the victims with their injuries.
A few minutes later, a second vehicle was driving on the Business Loop and its driver lost control at the same curve and drove through the first crash scene. The second vehicle struck several people: two passengers from the first crashed vehicle, the nurse and an off-duty deputy.
Paramedic Trevor Stuck, 23, died at the scene. He was a passenger in the first vehicle. Authorities said it is not clear which crash resulted in the injuries that led to his death.
Despins, 22 of Kalamazoo, was another passenger in that car and was critically injured.
The nurse, 53-year-old Marykay Macquarrie and the off-duty deputy, 46-year-old Laura Misner, were taken to a hospital. Macquarrie was initially listed in critical condition, but was upgraded to good condition a few days later. Deputy Misner was stable at last report.
The investigation into the accidents continues.
