LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The state parole board has voted in the case of a convicted killer from Calhoun County whose clemency petition has the support of Democratic U.S. Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan.
The Detroit Free Press reports Thomas Cress' case came up Friday.
The Michigan board's recommendation to Gov. Jennifer Granholm is expected to remain confidential until she makes the final decision in the case of Cress, who was convicted 25 years ago in the slaying of Patricia Rosansky.
The Michigan Supreme Court refused to grant a new trial despite no physical evidence against Cress and the subsequent confession of another man.
Cress spoke to the parole board in March, joined by lawyers from the Innocence Clinic at the University of Michigan law school.
The prosecutor is opposed to clemency.
