Complex houses mostly WMU students

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - One person was shot at the Copper Beech apartment complex in Kalamazoo early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened after police were called to the apartment complex because of a large fight.

Deputies with the Kalamazoo Sheriffs Department were at the apartment complex and heard a single gun shot.

Deputies found a 19-year-old man had been shot in his head.

Police said the teen was taken to Bronson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police also said the teen is not cooperating with the investigation.

The complex is filled mostly with students from Western Michigan University, although it is not clear if the 19-year-old is a student at WMU.

The apartment community is located off of W KL Avenue in Kalamazoo.

The shooting remains under investigation.
