PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - A chain-reaction crash caused quite the mess along a stretch of Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo County Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.
Two semi-trucks collided and jackknifed around 10:07 p.m. in the westbound lanes west of U.S. 131 in Portage. The trucks forced the closure of all but one lane.
During the crash, the barrier wall was stuck, which resulted in large pieces of concrete to fall into the eastbound lanes of the highway, according to a news release.
A semi-truck traveling east struck the barrier wall, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety, and two eastbound passenger vehicles then struck concrete debris.
None of the people in the vehicles were hurt, but traffic flow was heavily impacted, police said.
Two of the semi-trucks sustained substantial damage, a third had moderate damage, and the two passenger vehicles sustained moderate damage.
The accidents remain under investigation and the scene was cleared around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
