KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - John Metzelburg, who fired shots at police officers chasing him through three counties last year, was sentenced to 10-120 years in a state prison on Monday.
Metzelburg was convicted on Aug. 19 on multiple felonies.
The jury found him guilty on on four counts of assault with intent to commit murder, five counts of felony use of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police were chasing him in connection with a series of home invasions.
Metzelburg fired nearly a dozen gunshots at officers and two semi-trucks during high-speed chase. But during the chase, officers saw a Toyota backing down a side street and into a driveway and pulled it over believing it to be their suspect.
It turned out to be a woman named Michelle Selbee , who was handcuffed as officers pointed guns at her and her teenage child.
A radio call eventually alerted the deputies they had the wrong person.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller apologized to Selbee the next day and offered to make arrangements to pay for any medical bills she may have incurred as a result of the incident.
Metzelburg was in the car with Denise Metzelburg , who was sentenced Jan. 18 to four to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder.
John Metzelburg pleaded not guilty and went to trial. He will be sentenced Sept. 19.
