A breaking and entering suspect inadvertently turned himself into the police after he committed a crime Wednesday.
At about 4 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a business in the 600 block of North Rose Street and confirmed it had been forcibly entered. The suspect had fled.
Later in the day, a 27-year-old Kalamazoo man came to the public safety sub-station on North Park Street, saying he witnessed the break-in on North Rose Street.
The man was drunk and bleeding profusely from his forearms and hands, according to a Kalamazoo press release. His cuts appeared to be from broken glass. Officers helped clean the man up, and listened to his story.
He told officers he witnessed the burglary, and watched someone break a window to the business, crawl through it and enter. He said the suspect was wearing clothing similar to what he was wearing at the time.
The story continued to say that the injured man wanted to stop the criminal, so he climbed through the window after him, the two got into a scuffle inside the business, and eventually, the perpetrator fled.
However, when police went to the business to investigate if the man's claims were true, evidence proved otherwise.
Police could tell the injured man and the actual suspect were the same person, and arrested him for breaking and entering.
Now, the man is at the Kalamazoo County Jail. First, he had to receive stitches.
Nothing was stolen from the business, which is under renovation.
