KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A Kalamazoo nursing home listed on a federal watch list of poor nursing homes has improved.
Borgess Gardens in Kalamazoo landed on the Special Focus Facilities List in 2011 after several incidents.
In one of the incidents noted on the SFF, a nurse gave medication to the wrong resident, who ended up in Intensive Care. In another, a resident with a tracheostomy died after her breathing tube was dislodged because there were not enough helpers assisting in moving her.
But now, the latest SFF list released in April shows that Borgess Gardens "has improved."
In December, administrator Beth Ann Brehm told Target 8 that people can trust the facility.
"Borgess Gardens is a safe place. We are advocates for this vulnerable population," she said.
Borgess Gardens still gets one out of five stars in health inspections and two out of five stars overall.
