KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Kalamazoo Commissioner Terry Kuseske died Thursday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

The 61-year-old had been in hospice care at Rose Arbor.

"Commission Kuseske brought passion and a commitment to the residents of the city of Kalamazoo," says a written statement from the city. "Mayor Hopewell reported after his last visit with Commissioner Kuseske that the topic of conversation was centered around maintaining city services during this prolonged economic downturn. His passing is truly a great loss for the city of Kalamazoo."

Kuseske was elected to the city commission in November.

So far, funeral arrangements haven't been announced.
