AUGUSTA, Mich. (WOOD) - The search continued on Sunday for two men who have been missing since September under suspicious circumstances.
Michael VanBuskirk , 32, and Paul Atchley , 53, have been missing since early September.
On Sunday, K-9 teams with the Missing You Foundation combed the Fort Custer State Recreation Area near Augusta in search of the two Battle Creek men.
Twenty-five searchers and several dogs were at the scene of the search, which they said was of interest in the case. They also said they were able to cover quite a bit of ground.
Though the search did not yield a find, searchers think of it as part of a process of elimination.
"It's like finding a needle in a haystack. You just gotta go out and just start 'x'ing places out," said Jaime Jones, the lead investigator of the Missing You Foundation.
The missing men share a connection to 41-year-old Harold Ordway, who was arrested after a routine traffic stop in Allegan County revealed there was human blood on a mattress in the back of his truck.
Ordway was arrested at the scene for possessing a weapon as a felon, but would not tell investigators where the blood on the mattress came from.
In the following days, investigators discovered that Atchley had been staying with Ordway at Ordway's parents house on Manning Lake Road in Barry County. They say he had been sleeping there in the back of the pickup truck.
Shortly after the discovery of Atchley's disappearance, VanBuskirk, a father of three, was also found to be missing. VanBuskirk was living at Ordway's home on Woodward Avenue in Battle Creek to help with a remodeling project, said police.
Ordway was indicted on weapons charges in October.
The Barry County sheriff said on Sunday that his department is aware of the search and that it is still looking for leads in the case.
