BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - The Calhoun County Cold Case Homicide Team will fold at the end of the year.

The unit was formed in 2002. At that time there were two members from the Battle Creek Police Department, two from State police, one from the sheriff's department, a prosecutor's office investigator, and two part-time prosecutors.

Now, two city police officers and a prosecutor's office investigator remain on the team.

Battle Creek Police Chief David Headings told 24 Hour News 8 the changes are due to budget issues.

The cold case team has convicted five people in four different murder cases throughout the years.
