KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - The man found dead in the trunk of a car Thursday afternoon was murdered, police say.

The victim is 51-year-old Troy Maurice Scott of the Galesburg area, according to investigators. Kids on Scott's block called him "grandpa" and he was a well-liked man who had lived in the area for a long time, one of his neighbors said.

Police went to the 800 block of Gibson Street in Kalamazoo on Thursday to investigate a suspicious situation. They found the car at around 4 p.m. in the driveway of a vacant home.

Investigators spent several hours on the scene collecting evidence. A cause of death has been determined but police are not releasing that information.

Officers do not know of any connection between the victim and the vacant home, they say. They would not release any information about the vehicle Scott was found in.

Some neighbors first noticed the car in the driveway Thursday morning, they told 24 Hour News 8. Others say the vehicle had sat in that spot for several days.

Scott had been dead for one to two weeks before his body was discovered, according to investigators.

But Scott's home had not been robbed, police say.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety asks anyone with information about Scott's recent whereabouts to call (269) 337-8994 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
