3 officer-involved shootings cleared

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - Before leaving office, outgoing Calhoun County Prosecutor Susan Mladenoff cleared officers in three officer-involved shootings, two of which were from 2010.

Officers were cleared in:

• The May 17, 2012 shooting of 29-year-old Ryan Edger;
• The July 14, 2010 shooting of Joseph Jeremy Johnson;
• The July 21, 2010 shooting death of Leroy Nelson, whose family is suing officers in federal court

Battle Creek Deputy Chief James Saylor told 24 Hour News 8 that in the 2010 cases, the officers have been back on the job for a while.

The police department conducted its own investigation along with Michigan State Police and determined the officers could resume their duties even though the Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office had not yet acted.
