IONIA, Mich. (WOOD) - A truck driver struck a pedestrian on I-96 just west of the Ionia exit Friday night, critically injuring the walker.

The trucker was hauling a semi loaded with sand when the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Medical crews rushed to the scene and the pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital.

The trucker, from Belmont, was not hurt.

Police are unsure why the man, a 24-year-old man from Dimondale, was walking along I-96, and are seeking witnesses who may have information on the incident.
