GREENVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - A Greenville man was charged Tuesday with soliciting a 14-year-old for sex via the Internet -- and authorities are concerned other girls may have had contact with him.
Gary Michael Miller, 19, was arraigned on felony solicitation of a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.
Ionia County sheriff's detectives say the parents of a 14-year-old girl contacted them, concerned that Miller had solicited their daughter for sex.
Miller was using social media websites, including Facebook, to reach out to young girls, authorities said.
"After conducting a couple of search warrants at his residence, seizing his computers, we were able to establish that he has been in contact with a 14-year-old minor girl in the area, and we're obviously concerned about other contacts because of things we are starting to find on the computer and obviously social media," Ionia County Sheriff's Det. Phillip Hesche told 24 Hour News 8.
Authorities don't suspect Miller made any physical contact with the minor, but believe he did send her pornographic pictures.
Authorities are also checking schools in the Belding and Greenville area, and working with the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office to see if Miller ever ventured from the cyber world and went looking for young girls face to face.
"If anyone has children in that age group, that younger age group, particularly females, and they've had contact with him, they should certainly call the Ionia County Sheriff's Office. We'd like to know about that," Hesche said.
Miller also goes by the names Gary Lee Damon Miller, Gary Lee Miller and Gary Lee Damon.
"Often times they will take their real name and make variations of that to give themselves a new identity," Hesche explained.
Miller was lodged at the Ionia County Jail on $10,000 bond.
His mother told 24 Hour News 8 he hasn't lived with her in several months, and they're essentially out of contact. She did say if the allegations turn out to be true, she in no way condones that type of activity.
Anyone who believes they know a child who may have had inappropriate contact with Miller is asked to call Det. Hesche at 616.527.5737.
