LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (WOOD) - Lake Odessa’s police chief says authorities checked out a social media posting that prompted a school lockdown and determined there is "no threat" to students.

Chief Mark Bender tells 24 Hour News 8 investigators have determined the poster - an employee on leave from the school - did not pose a security risk.

Bender refused to clarify what the social media message specifically said, though he said it could have been interpreted as something they needed to check out.

“These days, we have to err on the side of caution and take everything seriously,” explained Bender.

Bender said the school did the right thing contacting authorities about the social media post.  He said officers have interviewed the poster and are “comfortable” that he or she does not pose a threat.

Lakewood Public School officials say West Elementary will remain on code yellow lockdown through the end of the day as an extra precaution. That means the school’s entrance will be locked. People have to be buzzed in to the school, but parents, staff and students can leave the building like they usually would.

School will dismiss as it normally does at 3:50pm.

No other schools in the district were impacted.
