EASTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Five students were on a school bus when it rolled over in Ionia County Thursday afternoon.
The Ionia Public Schools bus was headed south on Graff Road in Easton Township, just northwest of Ionia before 3:30 p.m. It started to spin out as it was turning onto Dildine Road, slid down an embankment, crashed into a small tree, and came to a halt on its side.
Five students of elementary and middle school age were on the bus during the crash. Those students had to exit the bus through the rear emergency exit.
Two students sustained bumps and bruises. One was picked up from the scene by a parent. The other was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Ionia to be checked out.
Authorities say that weather conditions appear to have caused the crash. Ionia Department of Public Safety Deputy Director John Odette said the bus driver managed to control the spin, which helped prevent a more serious crash.
24 Hour News 8 has contacted Ionia Public Schools and is awaiting response.
