85-year-old woman dies in wreck

NORTH PLAINS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An 85-year-old woman died and a 63-year-old woman was injured in a crash in Ionia County Monday morning.

Deputies were dispatched at 8:46 a.m. to Hayes Road about a half mile south of Hogan Road in North Plains Township.

That is where May Marek was driving south when her vehicle went off the road and struck a tree. The Crystal resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

Betty Miller from Ionia was the front-seat passenger and transported to Sparrow Ionia Hospital.

Both women wore seat belts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is not a factor in this crash, police said, and the investigation continues.
