PORTLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - Four people were injured in a rollover crash on I-96 between Portland and Eagle.

It happened around 4:20 p.m. on I-96 near Clintonia Road, according to Michigan State Police.

A westbound Jeep drifted off the highway, MSP said. A passenger told responding troopers that he yelled at the driver once the vehicle started to drift, but it was too late.

The Jeep struck a sign, hit the cable guard and rolled several times. Two people were ejected.

Driver Karin McCarthy, 56, and a 16-year-old male passenger were airlifted to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing for treatment.

The two other passengers, a 15-year-old male and 17-year-old female, were taken to Sparrow via ambulance.

The nature and severity of their injuries is unknown.

It's not yet known why the vehicle started to drift from the highway. The crash remains under investigation.

Both eastbound lanes of I-96 were closed after the crash and westbound traffic was backed up for more than an hour. Just before 6 p.m., eastbound I-96 reopened.
