OTSEGO, Mich. (WOOD) - Mechanical failure may be the cause of a semi-truck accident along M-89 in Allegan County that left the driver and his grandson injured.
The driver, 74-year-old Ivan Oneill from Union City, suffered critical injuries. His grandson, 31-year-old Jeremy Oneill, from Union City, suffered minor injuries.
The log-hauling truck spilled its load on M-89 near 23rd Street, west of Otsego, around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. It appears the driver lost control causing the truck to go off the road and into a deep-wooded ditch, and the trailer to overturn.
It took rescue personnel two hours to extricate the men from the cab of the truck.
The road was closd for almost six hours.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
