PLAINWELL, Mich. (WOOD) - Two cars collided after one driver did not stop while exiting an Allegan County highway, police said.
The at-fault driver -- a 34-year-old woman from Plainwell -- was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injury, police said.
The wreck occurred around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Plainwell/Otsego exit along southbound U.S. 131.
The at-fault driver in an Oldsmobile car exited the freeway, failed to stop at the stop sign at the top of the ramp, and her car crossed the two westbound lanes of M-89, jumped over the concrete separation barrier, and broadsided an eastbound Plymouth car, police said.
The suspect was alone in her car. She suffered minor injuries and taken to Pipp-Borgess Hospital in Plainwell.
The Plymouth car's four occupants are from Delton. The 38-year-old male driver was taken to Pipp Borgess and later transferred to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment to serious injuries. His front-seat passenger, a 27-year-old woman, also was seriously injured. Two children, 16 and 7, in the back of the car were treated at Pipp-Borgess for minor injuries and released.
