WAYLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A 14-year-old girl from Wayland Middle School is in critical condition Wednesday morning after she collapsed at school earlier in the week.
The girl was playing tag in her physical education class around 9:15 a.m. Monday when she collapsed, according to a statement from the Wayland Union Schools superintendent.
She was not breathing, so school staff performed CPR and operated an automated external defibrillator (AED) until emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
The girl was taken to DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The cause of the student's collapse is unknown.
