ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) - Monica Embree, the 36-year-old Allegan County woman who plead guilty to stabbing her stepson will spend up to 10 years in a state prison.
Calling her crime "...ugly and terrifying," Allegan County Circuit Court Judge Kevin Cronin sentenced Embree from 34 to 124 months in prison.
Embree was originally charged with attempted murder but that charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement and she plead to a less charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and interfering with a crime report.
Police say Embree stabbed her 14-year-old stepson, Joey, three times in the back with a kitchen knife because he failed to clean a trash can lid correctly. That happened in April of this year.
She was also sentenced to 23 months to 120 months on the charge of interfering with a crime report and she will serve the sentences concurrently.
Joey's father, Joseph, pleaded guilty in July to being an accessory after the fact. He'll be sentenced September 11, and faces up to 10 years for that crime.
