MIDDLEVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - Metaldyne spokesperson Marge Sorge told 24 Hour News 8 they are closing their Middleville facility.
Metaldyne manufactures parts for Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and International.
Last week, 30 hourly employees were laid off due to the recent Chrysler announcement of plant closings.
This week, 80 current workers received a WARN letter, notifying them that they will be let go when the Barry County plant closes by August 31.
The letter stated hourly employees have "...bumping rights", but because the plant is being closed entirely, "...all jobs are being eliminated and there are no positions to which bumping rights may be exercised."
A meeting was held Wednesday afternoon at the facility, 39 E. State Street, in case employees had questions about the closure.
In addition to the Chrysler decision, Metaldyne officials said the uncertainty with General Motors, the tight credit market and the current recession in the U.S. economy were factors for the shutdown.
Metaldyne has 20 locations including plants in Canada, Mexico, Brazil and the U.S. Their corporate headquarters are located in Plymouth, Michigan.
