ALLEGAN, Mich. (AP) - A man who authorities say was found with a bloody mattress in the back of his pickup truck following a crash in southwestern Michigan is getting a competency evaluation.
Harold Ordway is charged with weapons violations after authorities say they also found a gun following the minor Sept. 2 accident near Plainwell.
Prosecutors added other charges, and he now faces four felonies: two felony firearm counts, one count of possession of a weapon by a felon, and one count of carrying a weapon with unlawful intent.
Defense lawyer Fred R. Hunter requested the competency evaluation. An Allegan County judge agreed to the request on Wednesday.
Authorities are investigating Ordway's possible involvement into the disappearance of two men who haven't been seen since late August. Investigators say 32-year-old Michael VanBuskirk and 53-year-old Paul Atchley had lived with Ordway in Battle Creek.
Authorities say Ordway has refused to answer questions about the men. Searches that included Ordway's parents' property near Delton have turned up nothing.
