GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A California man has admitted to meeting a West Michigan girl on the Internet and having sex with her in a hotel.
Jason Michael Wood, 31, from Chino Hills, pleaded guilty to using a facility of interstate commerce to entice a minor to engage in sex, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a release. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years, and may be sentenced to any term up to life in prison.
Wood told the court when he changed his plea on Tuesday that he met the 15-year old victim in an Internet chat room and fostered a "relationship" with her via e-mail and cell phones.
He said he then traveled to the girl's hometown, which authorities did not release, where he rented a hotel room for a week. He then admitted to picking up the girl from her high school each morning, took her to the hotel for sex each day and returned her to school before dismissal.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said the victim's parents believed she was at school the whole time.
Following his release, Wood will be supervised for five years to life, and will be required to register as a sex offender.
