GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A young man has pleaded guilty to shooting a 6-year-old boy.

Dajawn Marquiel-Leon Jones entered the plea in court last month to careless discharge of a firearm causing injury. He will be sentenced on Feb. 28.

The 19-year-old told police he was firing a pistol at a fence while playing with it, when he accidentally hit the boy outside of a home near Prince Street and Kalamazoo Avenue on Sept. 3, 2011.

The child suffered a wound to a thigh.
