GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Police searched Tuesday night for the man who they say shot a young woman on Grand Rapids' southeast side.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of Curwood Avenue SE, near the intersection of Kalamazoo Avenue and 44th Street.
A young woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police say Jason Matthews shot the young woman in a residence and then took off through a back door.
A K9 unit tracked Matthews, who is 28 or 29, back to his unity at Oak Park Apartments. Police searched his apartment and three neighboring units, but did not find him.
Witnesses and neighbors are being cooperative, GRPD said, but they still do not know where Matthews is.
A photo of Matthews was not available Tuesday night because an arrest warrant had not yet been issued.
Neighbors said that the man fired up in the air and accidentally shot the young woman in the leg, but police would not confirm that.
There was a large police presence of Curwood after 7:30 p.m., including SWAT.
