GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Two men accused in the December 29 murder that left one man dead and three others injured both had preliminary hearings Friday.

Tamaine Foster, 27, and Isiah Latham, 24, are accused in the death of 34-year-old Jason Cherry that happened in the basement of the Dickinson Street SE home he lived in with his parents, according to officials.

Police said the suspects were after Cherry's drugs and money. They allegedly stole a quarter pound of marijuana and took off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Cherry died at the scene, and another man was critically injured after being shot in the face. Two others were treated for their wounds and were released from the hospital.

Kevin Harris was in the basement that night, and told the courtroom what he saw.

"He kind of was gasping for air and he made a noise like he was trying to say something. He just slumped over and just went cold," Harris said.

Foster was arrested on January 8 for an unarmed assault with intent to rob. Latham was arrested on January 17 for assault with intent to murder. It is unknown if those charges are connected to the Cherry case.

Friday's court hearing was adjourned for the day.
