GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Grand Rapids Police Department has issued a three-count warrant for a deadly assault and robbery that occurred at a halfway house.
The suspect -- 29-year-old Eric Sear -- is already in the Kent County Correctional Facility. He was arrested Monday on a parole violation in connection with a previous conviction charge of sodomy with a dog.
Now a warrant for second-degree murder, larceny from the victim, and conspiracy to commit larceny has been issued against Sear.
Sear's girlfriend, Cari Johnson, has been named a co-defendant in connection with the larceny charges.
Douglas Barry, 69, from Grand Rapids was assaulted at the residence at 430 Adams Street SE, police said.
William Allen, a resident at the home for ex-convicts, told 24 Hour News 8 Barry was visiting a friend and assaulted during an argument that involved drinking and possibly money. Allen said Barry, a Vietnam War veteran, was found lying in the road.
An ambulance crew was dispatched to the residence at 7:34 p.m. Sunday and transported Barry to a hospital where he died Monday morning.
The Grand Rapids Police Department Major Case Team is investigating this incident and would like anybody with more details to call 616.456.3604 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
