GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Grand Rapids Press journalist Andy Angelo, who was beloved as a professional mentor during a 25-year career at the West Michigan newspaper, has died. He was 55.
MLive Media Group executive editor Paul Keep tells The Associated Press that Angelo died at a hospital Tuesday, with his wife, Mary, and grandchildren, at his side. Angelo died after a short illness.
MLive.com reports Angelo previously delayed his retirement to aid a major company transition.
Angelo oversaw daily production of The Grand Rapids Press and other newspapers, including the Kalamazoo Gazette and The Muskegon Chronicle.
President Dan Gaydou says Angelo's eye for important stories and "sense of balance and fairness" made The Grand Rapids Press great.
Angelo also worked as a reporter and editor for the AP.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
