GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A once-cold case has resulted in a Texas man being sentenced for a Grand Rapids murder.

Andrew Scott Jr., 27, was sentenced Aug. 7 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for fatally shooting Tahari Braggs on May 11, 2004. He was also sentenced to two years in prison for felony firearm charges.

Braggs was inside his vehicle on Alexander Street SE in Grand Rapids, where he had stopped to talk with some people in another vehicle, when the shooting occurred.

After a thorough investigation, the case went cold. But in September 2009, the Kent Metro Cold Case Team reopened the case.

In June 2011, investigators arrested Scott in Dallas, Texas and he was extradited to Michigan.

On July 17, 2012, Scott was found guilty in Kent County Circuit Court.

Scott will first serve the two years for the firearms charge, after which the life sentence will begin.
