GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A teen who fired a gun at a Grand Rapids police officer has been sentenced.

Jamarion Quarles was found guilty
of assault with a dangerous weapon receiving and concealing a weapon, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon in early March.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to state wardship until he turns 18 and to an unspecified term of juvenile probation. He was remanded to the Kent County jail without bond pending his placement at the Wolverine Treatment Center, where he will remain until his 18th birthday.

Quarles was 14 when the incident happened, but he was tried as an adult.

The shooting happened March 29, 2011 near Fulton Street and Diamond Avenue after police were called to the area to investigate some disorderly teens that gathered behind a store. The teens began to run when officers arrived. Quarles pulled out a handgun from his waistband and fired at the officer, police said, but missed.

Quarles dropped the weapon and fled the scene. He was eventually caught following a short foot chase with officers. Police later searched the area and found the gun used in the incident.

Quarles told his family he didn't do anything.
